History of the Branch

Leeds branch was first inaugurated  on Saturday 28th June 1947 in the presence of Mr H M Roan a founding member of Bradford branch and of the cactus society. The venue at the time of the meeting was at a members house.

Leeds is one of the oldest branch in the society and second only to founding branch Bradford. Are values are not much different from the early days where cultivation and interest in the hobby was at the forefront of the members who participated.

Below are copies of what appeared in the Yorkshire society magazine detailing the meetings taking place at the time. They are of particular interest given how much was made at these events through sales of plants. In todays value no more than £0.75 but in 1947 this was worth a huge amount.
